ICI – Hochschule Koblenz

Dun & Bradstreet Survey

Confidence Falls as Cyber Threats & AI Add to Risk Management Challenges

A recent survey of compliance and procurement professionals indicates respondents are less confident about managing third party relationships, with cyber security threats and the increased adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) listed as top concerns.

The 2019 Compliance and Procurement Sentiment report from Dun & Bradstreet found that only 85% of respondents were confident about the effectiveness of risk management within their organization; 8% lower than the previous survey. Eighty four percent of respondents also forecast a decline in the future effectiveness of compliance and procurement functions. Respondents from smaller firms continue to be less confident about managing third party risks than those from larger organizations. Confidence levels in both current and future compliance and procurement effectiveness were lower among businesses with less than 50 employees (79% compared to 92% in larger organizations of 251-1000 employees).

The benchmarking report tracks areas of short and long-term success and concerns for compliance and procurement professionals and the 2019 edition highlighted the following main points: Compliance with laws and regulations remain top priority. An increasing number of regulations and a more complex regulatory framework has most likely contributed to compliance remaining a top concern among respondents for a third consecutive survey.

Slow response to increased cyber security risk.

Although cyber security was the number one concern for respondents, almost half (48%) do not yet incorporate in their third party risk management. Half of this group of respondents had developed an approach to cyber risk but have been slow to implement. The right skill set is key to unlocking the value of AI: Over half (53%) of respondents agree that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will improve efficiencies and enhance insight within their compliance and procurement functions. However, 45% are not confident they have the right skills in place to make full use of AI in the coming year, suggesting that additional training and focus on talent development is required.

Respondents in the Financial Services (60%) and Retail (55%) sectors saw the most potential benefit from AI for improved risk and fraud detection. However, 56% of government agencies and 47% manufacturing believe that data gathering and validation will benefit the most from Artificial Intelligence. The report also highlights the top four areas that respondents believe artificial intelligence will aid compliance and procurement.

Top Four Anticipated Areas to Benefit from Artificial Intelligence:

  • Risk and Fraud Detection (detection and monitoring of status, changing of circumstances and risks)
    • Data Gathering and Validation (new account setup, campaigns and ongoing monitoring)
    • Risk Screening (reducing false positives and remediation efforts)
    • Account Reconciliation (identifying/merging duplicates and updating records).

Germany is one of the most innovative countries in the world and many Minesoft customers based in Germany have contributed greatly to our product development over the last 20 years. Our local sales representative office in Germany has been serving our highly varied customer-base throughout the DACH region with significant traction for a few years now and it was high time for us to expand and solidify our presence with the formation of Minesoft GmbH. We are delighted to announce we are in Germany to stay!

The German team, led by Dipl.-Ing. Jochen Lennhof, participates in many industry conferences every year, forming new relationships and strengthening existing ties, as well as learning about current industry trends. Minesoft co-founder, Ann Chapman-Daniel was recently named Information Professional of the Year by German publication PASSWORD, due to her many former years of work within Germany, where she spent years of her earlier career giving talks and patent seminars about the use of IP in companies. Ann also supports the organisation Women&Work in Germany, being a founder steering board member and was named Female Entrepreneur of the Year 2018 in a UK Regional Business Award.

Ann Chapman-Daniel explained the new GmbH creation as a personal goal: “My career was bound up with the German language from day 1 of my working life, having studied German, therefore it is with great pleasure that I can announce we have decided to build a greater corporate presence in this market. It gives us more flexibility in conducting business and serving this very important marketplace where we have developed such solid professional relationships over many years. Hello Germany!”

Geschäftsführer Jochen Lennhof points out, „that by founding the GmbH, we want specifically to set an example for our customers, that we are looking forward to continue and increase our service and support within the German speaking IP community. This will go along with some very exciting product upgrades we are keen to announce very soon”

Minesoft, which has offices in the UK, USA and Germany, has developed a suite of patent solutions that help many DAX, FTSE 100 and Fortune 500 companies exploit the intelligence found in the most comprehensive source of technological ideas available – patents.

Founded in 1996, the company offers an array of products for the patent information industry, specialising in patent searching, IP document retrieval, patent analytics and competitive intelligence systems. Minesoft was awarded the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2009 and again in 2015 for its impressive, sustained growth in International Trade.
